«Highlights of Crimea» — это элективный предпрофильный курс для учеников 9-х классов. После него логично приступить к элективу «English for Guides«. Главная цель «Highlights» – рассказать детям о том, где они живут. Изучая иностранные языки, они хорошо знают достопримечательности Лондона, Берлина, Вашингтона, и не имеют ни малейшего представления, сколько мировых оазисов Природы и Истории начинается уже в 50 километрах от родного дома. Его отличительная особенность – мощнейший «региональный компонент»: не о путешествии вообще, в Индии и на острове Барнео, а здесь у нас в Крыму. It’s name can be translated as “Town of benefit”, “town-gather”. 1784 is the official date of its foundation. In February 1784 Russian Emprise Catharine the Great signed the order to arrange Taurida region on the territory of Crimean and Taman peninsulas. That time they were a part of Novorossia. Simferopol is an administrative, cultural and economic center of the Republic of Crimea, as well as its major traffic hub. Simferopol has a beneficial combination of automobile highways, railways and the international airport, the only one in the Crimea. The location of the capital on the cross of the main traffic ways in the valley of the Salgir River in the foothills of the Crimean Mountains stimulates its economic development. The magnificent historic and cultural heritage of Simferopol that includes pre-historic, ancient and medieval landmarks makes the capital of the Crimea an important tourist and recreation center. The population of Simferopol is more than 350 thousand people and consists of Russians, Ukrainians, Crimean Tatars, Armenians, Greeks, Turks and more than 100 other nationalities and nations. Orthodox Christians, Muslims and Jews live in Simferopol. Rejoining of the Crimea with Russian Federation in 2014 stimulated the humanization of interethnic relations of Simferopol inhabitants. 16 national and cultural societies are registered and function in the capital. A special municipal programme coordinates their activities. Recently the General plan of Simferopol development was adopted. It determinates the Crimean capital’s further progress for years and decades, announces the strategic directions and the priority concepts being a solid foundation for a new image of the Crimean capital and a comfortable habitat of local people and its guests».
